Terms and conditions
Effective 4 August 2026 · PlanAquatics, operated from Australia
PlanAquatics is a free planning aid and an early prototype. It will sometimes be wrong. Use it to think with, not as the final word on the welfare of a living animal.
1. Using the site
By using PlanAquatics you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, please do not use the site. It is provided free of charge, with no account, no subscription and no payment.
2. What this is
A tool that estimates whether a proposed aquarium stocking and equipment list is likely to work, using published care data and a documented bioload model. The method is explained in full on the How it works page, deliberately, so you can judge it rather than trust it.
3. It is not advice, and it is not a substitute for judgement
This is the part that matters most, because live animals are involved.
- The species data comes from published care sheets, which disagree with one another more often than you would hope. Where they disagreed, a judgement was made and recorded, but some figures in the database will simply be wrong.
- Compatibility is modelled per species. Individual fish have their own temperament, and no dataset predicts what a particular fish will do to a particular tankmate.
- A green verdict means "no obvious problems in the checks this tool performs". It is not a guarantee, a certification, or permission to buy.
- Nothing here is veterinary advice. For an animal that is sick, injured or distressed, consult a veterinarian with fish experience.
You remain responsible for the animals in your care and for the decisions you make about them. Where in doubt, ask a good local aquarium shop, an experienced keeper, or a vet.
4. Prices are estimates, not offers
Every price shown is an estimate gathered from Australian retailers on a single day, converted to other currencies at rates fixed on that day, and clearly labelled with how firm it is. Prices go stale, vary enormously between shops and seasons, and are not offers to sell. We sell nothing and take no commission. Check with the retailer.
5. Products and trade marks
Brand and product names — Fluval, Eheim, Aqua One, Seachem, Hikari and others — are trade marks of their respective owners, used here only to identify real products people can actually buy. PlanAquatics is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any manufacturer or retailer named on the site, and no listing implies any relationship or recommendation by them.
6. Availability
This is a prototype. It may change, break, or stop being available without notice, and no uptime is promised. Builds you have saved live in your own browser rather than on our server, which means they survive us going away — but also that clearing your browsing data removes them. Use Copy link for anything you want to keep.
7. Your content
Builds you create, and any custom species or parts you enter, are yours. They are stored on your device and we neither receive nor claim any rights in them. If you share a link, you are choosing to publish that build to whoever holds the link.
8. Acceptable use
Please do not attempt to break, overload or interfere with the site or its hosting, use it to distribute malicious content, or scrape it in a way that degrades it for other people. The site is one static file; if you want the data, ask and it will likely be given.
9. Intellectual property
The site, its text, its compatibility engine, its datasets as compiled, and its branding are © 2026 PlanAquatics. The underlying facts about fish are nobody's property. You are welcome to use the tool, link to it, screenshot it and quote it; please do not pass it off as your own.
10. Liability
The site is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including as to accuracy, fitness for a particular purpose, or uninterrupted availability. To the maximum extent permitted by law, PlanAquatics is not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of it or from reliance on anything it tells you — including loss of or harm to livestock, equipment or property.
Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or modifies any consumer guarantee, right or remedy you have under the Australian Consumer Law or other law that cannot lawfully be excluded. Where a liability cannot be excluded but can be limited, it is limited to resupplying the service — which, this being free, means providing it again.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Australia, and you agree to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of its courts.
12. Changes
These terms may change; the effective date at the top will change with them. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the revised terms.
